12 Ways to Protect Your Teeth
1. Brush for 3 MinutesPosition the head of your toothbrush toward your gums at a 45 degree angle and move it back and forth gently in short strokes.
2. Brush Twice a Day
Brushing your teeth daily is the fundamental step towards healthy
teeth. Please make sure to brush twice a day, i.e. after you wake up and especially before going to bed.
3. Don't Ignore Stomach Problems
Gas and other stomach disorders can cause stomach acid to travel back into the mouth and
erode tooth enamel as well as introduce infection causing bacteria to settle into the gums
that can lead to diseases or even tooth loss.
4. See Your Dentist
Every Six Months
Often oral problems cause no pain and can go undetected and get
worse. To save yourself from discomfort have a dental checkup every six months. 5. Stop Clenching and Grinding Your Teeth
Grinding your teeth puts pressure of up to 250 pounds per square inch on your teeth. This can cause gums to recede and accelerate periodontal disease.
6. Never use toothpicks
Never use toothpicks in your teeth. It has been observed that some people are habitual of using toothpicks after taking food. These little sticks can cause cavities in your mouth and weakens the gums.
7. Smoking is Injurious to Teeth
Smoking is not only injurious to health but it is also injurious to your teeth. Smokers are four times more likely to have gum disease than non-smokers. Smoking can also create white patches which direct hurt your smile.
8. Use Teeth for Chewing Food Only
Tearing, cracking or biting objects or chewing on hard things can crack or break teeth and can loosen fillings and crowns.
9. Floss
If you don't floss you miss cleaning 30% of each teeth surface, leaving sticky, bacteria laden plaque between your teeth that can cause gum disease and tooth loss. Floss regularly, at least once a day.
10. Watch Out for Teeth Damaging Foods
Popcorn kernels, frozen candy bars and ice cubes can damage your teeth. Pop contains acid and sugar that will erode tooth enamel whereas coffee and tea will stain your teeth.
